Program Open

One million trees. One million farmers’ futures

About this program

single programme, three compounding outcomes GSFN’s One Million Avocado Planting Campaign is designed to address food insecurity, rural poverty, and climate change together — not as three separate efforts. At its core, the campaign will plant 1 million grafted avocado trees, support 100,000 smallholder farmers, and establish a network of 200+ community nurseries — creating lasting agroforestry infrastructure across Eastern Uganda, Northern Uganda, and the West Nile region. Beyond tree planting, the initiative integrates carbon finance through digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (dMRV), strengthens value chains for export readiness, and prepares Uganda’s avocado sector for EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance. No community left behind in climate and economic transition. The campaign brings together government ministries, farmer cooperatives, private agribusiness, climate finance institutions, and international development partners under a unified, community-led delivery model.
